Buy now: Dried organic physalis 1kg

It sits on your breakfast bowl in the hipster café around the corner next to chia seeds, cocoa nibs and other toppings: the physalis. Despite its bright orange appearance and incomparable sweet and sour taste, it is usually used sparingly or sold in small packages. At KoRo, we want to spare you the constant trips to the supermarket and have gently dried the delicious fruit for that special crunch and longer shelf life. This makes the Andean berries, as they are also called, fit seamlessly into our extensive dried-fruit selection. And as you've come to expect from us, we have the fruits in 1 kg value packs for you - so you also save on packaging waste and transport. So stop the physalis hunt now and fill your store cupboard with our dried organic physalis!

The wonderful world of physalis

There are many different varieties of physalis. One of them is the Physalis peruviana, which can be recognised by its typical orange-coloured fruit. As its name suggests, it is mainly grown in South America, but also in Africa and India. It is often also called Cape gooseberry or Andean berry - and you can find the dried version of the tasty fruit here in our shop! Another well-known variety is the Physalis alkekengi, or lampion flower, which is also common in Germany as an ornamental plant. However, it is better to keep your hands off its fruits, which are recognisable by their reddish colour. So order our dried organic physalis instead!

For a sweet and sour kick: recipes with physalis

Physalis is rightly very popular and is an indispensable topping for your porridge. When dried, it is also a wonderful addition to a fruity pineapple and cranberry muesli or delicious banana granola bars. If you're not a big fan of sultanas but are looking for an adequate substitute, you should definitely give dried physalis a change and use it to fine-tune your (vegan) Kaiserschmarrn. Our favourite: physalis jam! Leave the dried fruit to soak overnight and you can easily use it the next day. Cape gooseberries also add an unbelievably delicious, sweet and sour note to savoury dishes - for example, as a fruity chutney for a winter curry or as an exciting component in your tofu bowl. As you can see, Andean berries are an absolute must in your kitchen! As a special snack, we can also recommend our delicious puffed physalis - a great alternative to conventional nibbles for the next movie night.

Questions & answers: Dried organic physalis 1kg
No search results.
Our physalis are gently dried after harvesting, so that they get a particularly tasty crunch and have a longer shelf life. The delicious sweet and sour taste of the fruit remains. In the 1 kg supply pack, you can also enjoy the fruits for a long time and save on packaging waste and transport routes - for a little more sustainability.
Our Cape gooseberries feel most comfortable in a cool, dry place protected from light. Under these circumstances, the minimum shelf life in the original sealed packaging is 18 months.
To lose weight, first and foremost a calorie deficit is necessary. You should pay attention to a balanced diet with which you cover all important daily nutrients. So you can continue to snack on our gooseberries without any problems if you pay attention to how many calories you consume in total.
Physalis do not contain gluten by nature. However, unknowing contamination with gluten-containing grains may occur during harvesting or processing, which is why we do not label the product as gluten-free.
Lampion flower is also a variety of Physalis, which is native to Germany, among other countries. Its botanical name is Physalis alkekengi. This variety is easily recognizable by its dark red fruits, which, however, should better not be eaten. The Physalis peruviana, which you can find in our store, bears orange fruits, which are edible when ripe.
Information about the origin of our Physalis is provided by two of its many names. Originally, Physalis peruviana, as its botanical name is, came from South America, hence the name Andean berry. It was then brought to South Africa, where the name Cape gooseberry originated. Today, physalis are also grown in India and on the island of Java, among other places. Our physalis come from organic farming in Peru. By the way, the name physalis comes from the Greek and means "bladder" or "shell".
Very good question! The first thing that comes to mind is your muesli or favorite porridge, which is just waiting to be refined with our Cape gooseberries. But also savory dishes, such as a tofu bowl or a lentil curry, the dried physalis give an incredibly delicious, sweet-sour note. Soaked overnight, you can also make a great jam from the fruit. And last but not least, dried physalis are also a great snack for in between.
Healthy is first and foremost a balanced diet. Therefore, we at KoRo are very reluctant to judge food as healthy and unhealthy. Cape gooseberries are rich in fiber and can be used in many dishes, but also snacked pure. Harmful to health in relation to the physalis are in any case the toxic parts of the plant such as the leaves and roots.
For this question, we have to go a little further. Basically, the answer is yes and no. Physalis belong to the nightshade family and thus naturally contain toxic alkaloids. However, as with other nightshade plants (for example, potatoes, tomatoes, eggplants), certain varieties have been cultivated for human consumption, so the fruits of the plant are safe to eat, provided they are fully ripe. Long story short, you should definitely stay away from the leaves and roots of any physalis species. However, one variety where the fruits are completely safe to eat when ripe and thoroughly washed is Physalis peruviana. The berries are characterized by their bright orange color and are certainly familiar to you from the supermarket. You can find the dried version of this delicious fruit as well as puffed phys alis in our store. Other edible physalis fruits include the so-called pineapple berry or the tomatillo.
In principle, nothing speaks against it from our side. However, we are not experts in this field, so you should always talk to your gynecologist about it.
100 g of our organic physalis come to 329 calories.
The berries are freed from their lanterns after harvesting, gently dried and packed directly - so they remain particularly long-lasting and crunchy.
Of course! Our physalis come from 100% organic farming.
Physalis are fruits that belong to the nightshade family.
It is better not to feed the dried fruits to your beloved four-legged friends. If you have any questions about it you should consult your veterinarian!
