Buy dates

Dates are the fruit of the date palm, a desert plant that grows in North Africa and the Middle East. The palm plant bears fruit only about once every two years, but then it can yield up to 100 kilograms of deliciously sweet dates. With a useful life of 80 to 100 years, a date palm can give us around 40 tonnes of dates.

The thought of such a pile of dates will not only make the hearts of all dried fruit lovers beat faster, but also those of those who want to replace commercial industrial sugar with natural sweetness. This works wonderfully with dates, as they naturally contain a lot of sugar. Accordingly, they also have a high energy content, which is why they are also called ‘bread of the desert’. Doesn't that just make your mouth water? Buy our dates now!

A date is a date – right?

Not quite: we at KoRo alone have different types of dates and many other products with and made from dates in our range. And if you think that's a lot, you better hold on to something: worldwide, there are several hundred (!) different types of dates, each differing in colour, shape, consistency and taste. You've already got to know the royal date family: the sweet Deglet Nour dates and the sugar-sweet, caramel-like Medjool dates. For a pleasantly fruity sweetness, try our Sukkari dates. And because we love dates so much, we have of course also created the ultimate sweet treat for all chocolate fans: dates covered in dark chocolate. If you love the sweet combination of chocolate and fruit as much as we do and would like to top it off with a portion of nuts, our date and chocolate bites with peanut are perfect for you. You can find more information about our different types of dates in our World of Dates.

As different as our dates may be, they also have a lot in common: they are untreated, which means they are unsulphured and do not contain any added sugar or preservatives, giving your dishes a natural sweetness. In addition, all of our dates are a source of fibre and one of our Medjool varieties, as well as the chopped dates, are also organic.

Recipes with dates

Dates wrapped in bacon are incredibly tasty, but we believe that the desert fruit has a lot more to offer! Because of their naturally sweet flavour, dates are a real all-rounder in the (vegan) kitchen. They are not only an ideal snack for in between meals, but are also suitable for sweetening cakes and other desserts . And if you prefer to start the day with a sweet breakfast, our all-time favourite, the organic date hazelnut spread, is your new go-to at the breakfast table.

We wouldn't be KoRo if we didn't also give you various snack suggestions for our dates. For example, try our moist date bread with almonds, create your own energy balls – or simply snack on these little favourites on their own! Dates are also wonderfully suited for various dips, such as our date cream cheese spread. If you don't have time to make your own, you can simply order our delicious organic date hemp spread. So, as you can see, there is (almost) nothing you can't do with our dates! Instead of the date fruits, you can also use our organic date sugar, date paste or organic date syrup, all of which are made from 100% of the popular Deglet Nour dates.

All questions about dates

Where do dates come from?

The date palm likes it warm and sunny (who doesn't?). The world's largest producing countries include Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Algeria, Iraq, Pakistan and Sudan. Our dates also come from Jordan, Tunisia and Israel.

What is the difference between the various types of dates?

There are several hundred types of dates, which differ in colour, shape, consistency and taste. The queen of dates, the Medjool date, tastes like caramel. On the other hand, our Sukkari dates have a particularly fruity flavour.

Are dates healthy?

At KoRo, we don't categorise food as healthy or unhealthy. Because, first and foremost, a healthy diet is one that is balanced and varied, and one that is accompanied by a healthy lifestyle. However, our dates are untreated: they do not contain added sugar or preservatives and are also unsulphured.

Do dates affect digestion?

Even though our dates are absolutely delicious, you should still enjoy them in moderation. Because in larger quantities, they can have a slight laxative effect.

How should dates be stored and how long do they keep?

It is best to keep the dates cool, dry and protected from sunlight. Depending on the variety, they will keep for at least 12 months. Some types of dates, such as our Medjool dates with pits, can even be stored frozen (at up to -18°C), extending their shelf life to up to 18 months! It's best to check the respective product specification to see how long your favourite dates will keep.

Can I eat dates when I'm pregnant?

Our dates are untreated and without additives. Therefore, there is no reason why you should not eat the sweet treat during pregnancy. Nevertheless, we recommend that you eat them in moderation and, if you are unsure, consult a medical professional.

Can my dog eat dates?

Not only do we enjoy the sweet taste of dates, dogs love them too. Just as with us, the same applies to your four-legged friend: enjoy in moderation! Because dates can also have a laxative effect on dogs and also contain a lot of sugar. Of course, you can still mix a few dates into your dog food or homemade treats from time to time. But be sure to remove the stone beforehand. And if you are unsure, it is better to get veterinary advice in advance.
