Innovation is our keyword
"When the winds of change blow, some seek shelter in the harbor while others set sail." If you already know us a little, you can certainly confirm that we literally sprint after the winds of change. That's because we like to be at the forefront when it comes to innovative foods: from Marcona almonds with rosemary and vegan organic pesto with palm kale to rice crispies in white chocolate and strawberry powder, you'll find (almost) every combination of your wildest culinary dreams with us. Gone are the days when meat substitutes caused an outcry among non-meat eaters and meat eaters alike. That's why we've teamed up with the luminaries of meat alternatives to shake up the food market a little. And in the truest sense of the word, because last year we teamed up with Rügenwalder Mühle to create five vegan dry mixes that you can easily mix yourself with a little water and oil! You may have already tried the Mühlen Bacon Bites, the Mühlen Fillet, the Mühlen Mince and the Mühlen Meatballs. But at the beginning of January 2024, we landed another fish: our vegan Mühlen tuna!
Tuna in the dry dock
A fish alternative as a dry mix? Despite our openness to innovation, this may still be a strange idea. Initially, it was for us too, as we at KoRo have made it our mission to sell long-life food. And fish are, admittedly, not the first thing you think of when you think of long shelf life. So it was a welcome challenge for us to create a vegan alternative that was at least as tasty, so that the tuna could stay where it belongs. However, as newbies in the "fish alternative" category, we couldn't do without the help of experienced captains who have sailed the seven seas when it comes to substitute products. So Rügenwalder Mühle developed a top-secret "Wow, is that really vegan?" spice mix while we put our shelf-life expertise to the test. After much fiddling, we finally did it and created a vegan tuna alternative in the dry dock! And the best is yet to come, because the tuna substitute not only tastes as delicious as its animal equivalent and, unlike it, has a longer shelf life - it also contains a high protein content (23 g/100 g prepared product) and no flavorings or preservatives!
Use of our vegan tuna alternative
Sounds all well and good, but can I really use vegan tuna substitute in the same way as classic tuna? And whether you can! Whether in a salad, with fusilli, in a sandwich or casserole, our alternative is in no way inferior to the classic! To prepare, simply mix 130 ml of hot water with the dry mixture and leave to soak for 30 minutes. Then add 2-3 tablespoons of rapeseed oil and your vegan tuna alternative is ready faster than the most experienced sailor can shout "ahoy".
So, come on board, get involved and try our very first fish substitute for yourself!
