Is breakfast a must?
A daily breakfast generally serves to replenish the carbohydrate stores that your body has used during the night. A balanced breakfast therefore makes a valuable contribution to your daily nutritional intake. If you don't want to eat breakfast first thing in the morning, you don't have to worry about cravings. A study by Monash University in Melbourne refutes previous assumptions that missing breakfast would promote cravings and unhealthy eating during the course of the day. A less pronounced effect of this study relates to the weight of non-breakfast eaters. According to the study, this is minimally lower than in people who regularly eat breakfast. The assumption that skipping the morning meal is a risk factor for obesity was therefore refuted.
What applies to one applies to all?
You probably know this too: some people get up in the morning, immediately feel very hungry and start the morning with a meal. Others just have an appetite and snack on the way to work. Still others simply take a while before hunger or appetite sets in. Why is that? Habits, but also your metabolism! If your metabolism is very active, you can assume that you will quickly feel hungry in the morning. If, on the other hand, your metabolism is a little slower, the feeling of hunger will only set in later in the morning. The important thing here is: Listen to your body! Everyone's preferences and habits are individual, so decide for yourself whether you want to have breakfast or not.
If breakfast, then it should be balanced!
First of all, your breakfast should be one thing: delicious! From a nutritional point of view, we can also advise you to have a balanced breakfast. In other words, a good balance of macro and micronutrients. Wholemeal bread or cereal flakes are recommended for carbohydrates and fiber. Fruit and vegetables should also be included, as this will provide your body with the vitamins and phytochemicals it needs. Don't forget protein and fat, for example in the form of nuts, seeds or nut butter! Need a little inspiration? You can also find lots of great breakfast ideas in our recipe database.
