Never heard of maca? Then it's high time you did! The maca plant, also known as Lepidium peruvianum, is a true survival fighter. In the Andes of Peru, the plant grows under pretty gnarly conditions between 4000 and 4400 metres in altitude. Crazy, isn't it? The herbaceous plant uses its underground tuber as a storage organ, as this part is well protected. So it makes sense that the root contains the most vitamins and minerals. Maca is a plant that belongs to the cruciferous family. Also known as Lepidium peruvianum, the herbaceous plant was discovered by the Incas 2000 years ago and is an integral part of the ancient Peruvian herbal medicine.
