Over here Europe, pecans are still considered the unpopular brother of walnuts, but in the USA, they are much more beloved and widely used – and rightly so! Pecan nuts can be the highlight of so many tasty recipes, both in sweet dishes like the popular and delicious pecan pie, one of the most traditional desserts you can meet in the Southern states of the US, and savoury creations: use them to top your baked vegetables! With their buttery taste and crunchy texture, pecans will always pleasantly surprise.

You don't need to chop up our pecans

Do you use pecans mostly to cook and bake? Then our broken nuts are just perfect for you, as you won't have to chop them up. Moreover, you will save money in addition to time, as the broken pecan pieces are much cheaper than the perfect intact nuts. Win-win!

The highlight of your banana bread

Their gentle but distinctive taste makes pecans one of the best additions possible to your banana bread, to which they will bring not only taste, but also some crunchiness. Speaking of crunchiness, try sprinkling some broken pecans on your salads, porridge or just snack on them. If you thought broken nut pieces are for birds, you were completely wrong! The little pieces hold full flavour, despite not being entire nuts. If you still want whole pecan nuts, we also have those ready for you here at KoRo!

Climate impact

At KoRo, we analyse the greenhouse gas emissions that are produced during the production of our snacks. These include, among other things, CO2, methane and nitrous oxide. Our hard-working sustainability team collects all the information to calculate a value: the so-called CO2 equivalents. We are now passing this information on to you so that you can make informed purchasing decisions and keep an eye on your personal carbon footprint. We also use these valuable findings ourselves, to try to make our supply chains even smarter in the future and monitor our CO2 footprint.

CO₂ emissions by product

To make the work of our sustainability team easier, we have teamed up with the company Cozero. They support us with their decarbonisation software to calculate the CO2 emissions of our products. Our products go through a lot before they make their way into your pantry or snack bowl, so there is a lot to take into consideration: production, packaging, and logistics – to name just the big steps.

CO₂ emission per product in comparison

Would you like to find out how well your favourite snack stacks up against other products in terms of carbon footprint? Say no more! To create comparability, we calculated the CO₂ emissions per 1 kg of our products and compared them with other products that end up on many people's plates every day, such as cheese, tofu, and many more. We also included coffee as a drink for comparison. So no matter if it is your favourite snack or your go-to kitchen product, you are now able to see exactly how it performs in our “CO₂ per kg of product” ranking.

Comparison of CO₂ emissions per product in kg

Disclaimer: Different methods (comparison products) - The CO2 emissions of the non-KoRo products come from a different data source. Therefore, there may be differences between their evaluation method and the evaluation of KoRo products.

Pssst: Im KoRo Shop findest Du allerlei Pekannuss-Variationen.

Before you order a kilogram of pecan curd right away, you naturally want to know more about the shelf life of the nuts. If stored in a light-protected and dry place, the pecans in curd quality will last about a year after filling. But don't worry, the delicious nut pieces will be gone sooner than you think!
Botanically speaking, pecan trees belong to the walnut family. The external similarity of the pecan to the walnut is therefore no coincidence. On the other hand, the pecan has little in common with the Brazil nut. Sure, they are both nuts - but that's about it. For example, the Brazil nut is super hard to open, while the pecan has a soft shell.
Pecan kernels in broken quality can be used for baking. Inspirations and recipes for a pecan banana bread or a particularly nutty baked apple can be found in our Food Journal. By the way: You can also use the pecan curd as a great topping on savory dishes - why don't you try the winter salad with pomegranate?

Unfortunately rancid.

I have specially ordered the curd, because I usually process the nuts anyway and do not eat pure. But even in the baked they taste rancid. Unfortunately, I can not eat.

The product is top quality, but information sharing with the shipping company is missing.

Very good product. Ordered this package so I could make a batch of Pecan Pie, and it turned out to be one of the best I have tasted in a long time. 4/5 stars because Koro did not pass on my address to GLS. I had to contact GLS myself and have the nuts sent to a parcel shop instead - a minor inconvenience. But the product is as it should be - top notch! Will buy here again!
