Brown lentils are Germany's best-selling type of lentil – and for a reason: from hearty stews to spreads, the protein-rich legume finds its way onto our dining tables in an incredible variety of ways. Lucky for you, our high-quality organic brown lentils are available in the inexpensive 2 kg value pack!

Brown lentil-based burger patties or vegan Bolognese

In Germany, the brown lentil is used particularly often in Swabian cuisine for the traditional dish “lentils with spaetzle”. But if brown lentils only make you think of this German specialty or stews and soups, you should most definitely take a good look around the world! Lentils are excellent for patties as a vegetarian alternative on the burger or in the now super popular lentil bolognese. The legume is also a staple in Indian cuisine, where it is the basis of curries or salads. Last but not least, lentils can even be transformed in fantastic spreads! As you can see, there are few limits to our brown lentils, a real all-round talent in the culinary world.

How to prepare brown lentils

When cooking, the lentils' shells burst open and their creamy core is exposed, thus developing their mild, slightly nutty and earthy, unique taste. For the preparation, we recommend that you soak our lentils in enough water beforehand or overnight: this reduces the cooking time from 60 minutes to around 30-40 minutes. If that is still too long for you, we suggest you use our peeled red lentils, which do not need to be soaked.

Lentils as a source of protein

Lentils have a high protein and fibre content; because of their solid nutritional profile as well as their versatility, lentils are very popular among vegans and vegetarians! And dried lentils are the ultimate good choice: in contrast to many canned brown lentils, we do not use any colouring, flavouring, or preservatives for our tiny legumes. Moreover, choosing large sized bags saves unnecessary packaging. What are you waiting for? Buy our organic brown lentils now and stock up your pantry!

Lentils are naturally gluten-free. However, cross-contamination with gluten may occur during the bottling process, as our bottler also processes foods containing gluten. For this reason, we do not label our brown lentils as gluten-free.
Yes, our brown lentils have a high protein content, 23 g per 100 g. Protein contributes to the growth of muscle mass and to keeping you full and satisfied for long.
Our brown plate lentils come from organic farming and do not contain any additives such as oil, colorants, flavorings or preservatives. Due to their high protein content, lentils are an excellent addition to a vegan or vegetarian diet. Because of its versatile processing possibilities, the small legume is also a must-have in many German kitchens: Fritters, bolognese, stews, soups, curries, salads or spreads are just a fraction of the dishes that can be prepared with brown lentils. But that's not all: Because we skip trade stages with our bulk packs and pass on the resulting price advantage to you, you also save money.
Our brown organic lentils come from Turkey.
Yes, our brown plate lentils come from organic farming.
Yes, our brown lentils are purely vegetable and therefore vegan. Except 100% brown lentils literally nothing comes into our bag.
We recommend you soak the brown lentils in enough hot water 3 to 4 hours before cooking or overnight. The warmer the water, the shorter the soaking time. For the subsequent cooking process, you can either use the soaking water or fresh water - just try what works best for you here. Add about twice the amount of water to the pot and let the lentils simmer for 30 to 40 minutes. Without the soaking process, the lentils will take about 60 minutes. Exactly how long the brown lentils should cook depends on how you plan to use the legumes. For a lentil salad or as a side dish with a bite, a shorter cooking time is recommended accordingly. Also, in this case you can cook the lentils with salt, then they will be less soft. If this still takes too long, it is best to use our peeled red lentils, which do not require soaking.
100 g of our brown lentils have 304 kcal and 41 g of carbohydrates. You can find the exact nutritional values of the brown lentils next to or below the product description and on the product packaging.
Healthy is above all a balanced and wholesome diet. Brown lentils can contribute to a healthy diet with a high protein and fiber content. Protein, for example, helps maintain muscle mass and normal bones.
The brown lentils keep unopened for at least 2 years after packaging. The shelf life of brown lentils depends essentially on the correct storage - cool and dry. If the dried lentils have expired, this is not a reason to throw them away blindly. The best-before date (BBD) should not be confused with the use-by date. It simply indicates the minimum period until which the characteristics of a food product, such as taste, odor, color, consistency and nutritional value, remain unchanged. We always recommend a visual inspection and, if necessary, an odor and taste test before consumption.
