What is bulgur and where does it come from?

Bulgur is made from purified and sorted durum wheat semolina and originally comes from the Near East. Before the grain lands on your table, the wheat is harvested, precooked (parboiled), dehydrated, peeled, filtered and finely ground. Quite a lot of work, but we are happy to put up with it so that it tastes good to you!

Is your bulgur organic?

Yes, our bulgur is 100% organic.

How many calories have bulgur cooked and uncooked?

Our uncooked bulgur has 375 kcal per 100 grams. For a serving of 80 grams of cooked bulgur, this gives about 120 calories.

Is your organic bulgur coarse or fine ground?

Our bulgur is medium to fine ground. It resembles semolina in texture.

Is bulgur vegan?

What is the difference between bulgur and couscous?

Bulgur and couscous are both durum wheat products that differ primarily in processing. For bulgur, the grains are steamed, dried, and then chopped into small pieces if necessary. For couscous, durum wheat semolina is moistened, rolled into balls, cooked and dried. As a result, the taste also differs somewhat: bulgur tastes nutty, couscous is somewhat milder.

How can I prepare or cook bulgur?

Before preparing the bulgur, it is best to rinse it briefly with cold water to avoid the formation of lumps. For the preparation, simmer the desired amount of bulgur in twice the amount of salted water for 10 minutes. Then the pot comes down from the stove, cover it and, if necessary, patiently leave to swell until the bulgur has absorbed all the liquid.

Is bulgur gluten-free?

Bulgur is a precooked wheat and therefore not suitable for people with gluten intolerance. If you are unsure whether you can eat bulgur, it is best to consult your doctor.
