If you are looking for the origins of today's popular black tea, you will find them in India! The tea-growing regions and their varieties are as diverse as the landscape there. Tea nerds take note: Black tea cultivation has its origins in the first attempts of the Englishman Archibald Campbell in 1841. Besides black tea, green, white and yellow tea can also generally be called Darjeeling, provided they are grown in the region of the same name at the foot of the Himalayas. But what is the ominous term "first flush" all about? What sounds like a failed tea brewing attempt has a significant effect on the taste and colour of the infusion. The first shoots of the tea are harvested from the end of February to the end of April. After processing, they develop a mild floral aroma, paired with a golden yellow cup colour.

Then here are the most important tips for brewing: 4 to 5 heaped teaspoons per litre are recommended, as well as a brewing time of about 2 to 4 minutes at 100 °C. Basically, the difference between Earl Grey and Darjeeling is that Earl Grey has no typical growing region. For the production of Earl Grey, black tea from a variety of well-known tea regions is used and consequently refined with bergamot oil - which creates the characteristic aroma of Earl Grey. In contrast, Darjeeling black tea is a pure, unflavored black tea grown only in the Darjeeling region of India.
Recommended for one liter of water 4-5 heaping teaspoons. The brewing time is 2-4 minutes. The water temperature can be up to 100 ° C.
The name "Darjeeling" describes the tea cultivation in the Indian district of Darjeeling, where tea was first grown as early as 1841. Today, about 70,000 workers are employed in this region.
Our Darjeeling black tea is carefully harvested from tea plantations in India and has the highest possible leaf grade. This leaf grade is characterized by uncrushed, fine leaves, which are crucial for the mild-floral, delicate flavor.
The somewhat complicated sounding designation "SFTGFOP1" indicates the particular leaf grade of the tea and means in its detailed form: "Special Finest Tippy Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe 1." This expresses the highest grade (i.e. classification), which stands for high quality of fine leaves and has a delicate taste. By means of the leaf grade, the respective harvested leaf sizes are basically divided into categories for better sorting. A distinction is made between whole leaves, leaf tips and leaf particles.
The term "first flush" refers to the first harvest of tea leaves in spring between the end of February and the end of April and is characterized by an aromatic, light-colored infusion.
The production of black tea is carried out in several steps: First, the harvested leaves are rolled to release essential oils. The fermentation, characteristic of black tea, ensures the formation of the typical aroma. This is followed by drying at about 85 degrees for 20 minutes and sorting of the dried tea leaves.
